1st Annual Seedling Student Festival 

This year our K-12 portion of the Offshoot Film Fest will be operating independently as a separate festival in order to make it easier for you or your school to submit your projects. A high functioning, fully integrated, hands on Conference & Competition for students and teachers! Seedling Festival is the first fest to combine Film, Broadcast, Sports, Production, Web Design and Multi-Media. Presented by Seedling Film Association in Fayetteville Arkansas, this event is designed to bring together education to industry leaders. Our goal is to provide state of the art hands on workshops and opportunities for students in this industry . The Seedling Festival is your opportunity to interact with Post Secondary and Industry. With over 15 categories ranging from Video to Web Design this Fest will give you the opportunity to showcase your work and help you begin to build your  portfolio. Moreover, Seedling Festival will give you opportunities to see a variety of disciplines. Seedling Festival is the premiere festival for you get hands on experience. Categories

 

I. Broadcast Category – (schools – no more then 3 entries in each sub category)

  • News Story: (Maximum time allowed 2 minutes)

News Story entries will be judged on the basis of journalistic and video coverage, which demonstrate awareness of broadcast journalistic standards, including accuracy and fairness.  Judges are looking for well-organized material, clearly written narration, and appropriate sound bites.  Judges also look for video composition and relation to the narrative.

  • Human Interest or Feature Story: (Maximum time allowed 10 minutes)

Human Interest entries will be judged on the basis of journalistic and video coverage, which demonstrate awareness of broadcast journalistic standards, including accuracy and storytelling.  Judges are looking for well-organized material, clearly written narration and appropriate sound bites.  Judges also look for video composition and relation to the narrative.

  • Sports Story: (Maximum time allowed 10 minutes)

Judges will look for well-organized material, clearly written narration, and appropriate sound bites.  Video must relate to narrative, have composition relevance and capture the spirit of the sport.

  • Show Opening: (Maximum time allowed 45 seconds)

Student produced opening for any show.  Entry will be judged on creativity, composition, and editing.

 

 

II. Student Film Category – (schools – no more then 5 entries in each sub category)

  • Feature – any narrative film over 30 minutes in length
  • Short – any narrative short film under 30 minutes
  • Documentary – documentary of any length
  • Music Video – music video of any length
  • Animation – any form of animation, any length
  • Experimental – any length film that does not fit the mold of typical fimmaking
  • Action Sports – any film 10 minutes or under that represents, showcases or is inspired by action sports including but not limited to skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing, wake, BMX bike riding, freeski, football, volleyball, softball, basketball, baseball, etc.  Highlight reels are acceptable but music must meet copyright rules stated earlier.

 

 

III. Student Production Categories – (schools – no more then 5      entries in each sub category)

  • Public Affairs / Community Service / Public Service Video Projects (Maximum time allowed 10 minutes)

This entry is a video project that has content with current social, civic, or other issue-oriented subject matter.  This could be an advocacy video or a training video.  These videos are generally client based but do not have to be.  Concept, content and execution are important elements.  Entries will be judges on the basis of concept, content and execution. 

 

Note: some programs do client based presentations where a video is part of the presentation.  Please submit your video and inform Seedling that you are interested in showcasing your entire presentation.  If your video is selected to be showcased we will consider selecting your entire presentation to showcase during the festival.

  • Public Service Announcement (PSA) and Commercials: (Maximum time – 30-60 seconds)

A 30 to 60 second message to educate, inform or persuade a target audience.

 

 

Eligibility

This is the K-12 portion of the Seedling Festival. The film director must have been K-12 at time of directing. (For everything after high school please see our website for other entry details.)

 

All music and other copyrighted material used in the video must be original or filmmakers must have obtained permission from the owner.

 

Entries will be judged by professionals from the video industry.  Judges may not have a conflict of interest, which is described as having a direct involvement in the production of an entry, or having a personal relationship with a member of the production staff of an entry.

 

HOW TO SUBMIT 

  1. Go to http://indee.tv/index/?festival=Seedling
  2. Check the box to accept the rules laid out by the festival
  3. Login or Create an account if you don’t have an Indee account
  4. Click the + sign on the the “My Films” page to add a new film and select the Seedling festival
  5. Follow the remaining steps as the website guides you.

 

DVDs or USB drives with films should be mailed directly to Indee and cases must be clearly labeled with the title, filmmakers’ name, phone number and the provided Indee ID. DVD’s mailed must be postmarked by the date of the final deadline.

 

Previewed DVD’s will not be returned
